Mushroom Cultivation Techniques

How to use the dunking technique to achieve higher yeilds when fruiting your substrate jars. This method hydrates the mushroom cakes so they have more moisture when going into the grow chamber. HOW TO MAKE OYSTER MUSHROOM GRAIN SPAWN IN A SIMPLE WAY

By Adrian Ogden , Katherine Prowse  Gourmet Woodland Mushrooms Ltd., U.K.  What did you begin with when you started mushroom growing? Some raw beginners might have started  with mushroom growing kits or so-called ready-to-fruit bags. From these bags they can harvest mushrooms  by just providing the proper conditions for mushroom growing. Others might have started with the organic  materials for mushroom growing, i.e. substrate and mushroom seed purchased from their local provider.  The former could see only fruiting  but the latter could witness the two phases of mushroom life cycle,  mycelial or vegetative growth and fruiting, or reproductive growth.  Mushroom seed, commonly called “spawn” in the mushroom industry is a result of mycelial expansion.  Using the following guide, any of you familiar with sterile techniques or having specialized knowledge of  mushroom culture can make your own “mushroom starters” under steri...

Grow Your Own Oyster Mushrooms on Straw

Oyster mushrooms tick both these boxes, and they are also ridiculously tasty. Not only that, oyster mushrooms are extremely expensive when purchased from a supermarket, so it makes sense to grow them yourself. Currently in Melbourne they are going for $34 per kilo. I’m no mushroom-growing expert, so do your own research, but below I’ve outlined how I’ve successfully grown my own oyster mushrooms on straw. It’s surprisingly easy, although you do need to take appropriate precautions to make sure you are growing the right mushrooms and in a hygienically safe way. Apparently whi...
